Acorn – Movement with a Plan: Co-Operation Jackson*
May 27 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
ACORN is excited to welcome Kali Akuno and Sacajawea Hall from Cooperation Jackson, Mississippi, to Manchester to share the story of Jackson and the radical strategy behind the Jackson-Kush Plan. Awareness of the great work that Cooperation Jackson are doing is slowly filtering into the awareness of organisers in Britain, so it’s our absolute pleasure to host them in Manchester.
Whilst many dream of making large scale change at the municipal level, Cooperation Jackson are making this happen in reality. Behind the media-grabbing headlines of the election of a ‘radical Mayor’ lies the tireless work of educational programmes, the building of cooperatives, the buying-up of land, and the development of alternative democratic structures. This isn’t just the usual ‘movement building’ work we’re all used to talking of. Jackson is a city with a plan for large scale social change.
Following on from our discussion with Barcelona en Comu we are really excited to hear more about what is happening in Jackson and learning what we can from their experiences.
