Socialism or Barbarism (Manchester Momentum)

28th September 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

“Bourgeois society stands at the crossroads, either transition to Socialism or regression into Barbarism.” – Rosa Luxemburg, 1916.

In 2019 too we stand at a critical juncture. In Britain today a hard right faction has taken over the Conservative Party and plan to force through No Deal in order to asset strip our country and hand it over to Trump and his acolytes. They will seek to slash environmental protections, workers’ rights, dismantle the public sector and build a society where the rich reign supreme and the rest of us go to hell. We have a word for this: barbarism.

And yet, ranged against this dark vision of the future is a political programme of hope. Under Jeremy Corbyn the British left have moved to within an inch of power. Over the last 4 years it has put forward an ambitious, progressive platform that would tackle seriously the great crises of our age, from a broken economy to a collapsing climate. Through the implementation of socialist policy, we can begin to turn the tide on 40 years of neoliberal capitalist devastation.

Manchester Momentum believes that this better world is within our grasp, but this fight demands that we all step up. Our time is now.

Join us, plus two fantastic speakers, on the eve of the Tory Party Conference to share visions of a better world, and then get ready to fight for it.
