Partisan’s Club space is located inside the Islington Mill on James Street (M3 5HW). Our Community Space is located across the courtyard on the ground floor of New Islington Mill, which can also be accessed from the Regent Trading Estate off Oldfield Road (M5 4DE).

Partisan Presents: THE ASIAN UNDERGROUND (1991)

In this music documentary, Aki Nawaz explores the combinations of spirituality and music through east and west. The Asian Underground music scene was emerging in England in the early 1990s, through this film we get to see some interesting insights as Nawaz speaks with a number of musicians and scholars on how religion, culture and music can clash but can also blend and fuse. The film demonstrates the dilemma faced by children of immigrants who grow up needing to reconcile and balance inter-generational expectations. Nawaz discusses that “we have a duty to understand our traditions and decide which values we wish to keep” as he seeks to understand how to express the complicated nature of identity.
LATER THAT EVENING Daytimers take over Soup Manchester celebrating some of the sounds that the pioneers of the early 90’s were experimenting with. Will be a night not to miss, we’ll see ya there 💃
