It’s been too long since the last VAM party. That’s why we’re having another one! This time, the wonderful Partisan Collective will be hosting our sensory extravaganza on the top floor of the venue. We’re very excited to be collaborating with Partisan as this space adds a lot of value to the city of Manchester, by supporting local activists, arts projects and all-round creatives. That’s why we’ll be giving something back to them- all money raised from this party will be directly donated to partisan… Show some support and keep creativity alive in our city.

The VAMily is a visual-arts-music collective. We adopt an inclusive clubbing philosophy inside and out of club contexts. We use spaces as a place and time to inspire, share experience, and identify with each other as people with appreciation for the arts.

We’ll be making you feel comfortable with some confusingly cosy spaces-within-spaces… Expect nothing… Here’s a hint: you may encounter some or all of the five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell (something a bit nicer than a fart in the club).

We’ll be joined by natural sciences who are running a night downstairs so tickets are open admittance to both events. Fantastic artists on this label, they’ll be bringing the bangers to the basement: Natural Sciences x Mannequin with Alessandro Adriani

MUSIC

KAT.A

Latvian dark soul singer Katrina Barkovska makes her debut at VAM. A well-trained ear will prick up to the sound of her meticulous attention to vocals, melodies and harmony. Most recognisable in her music, you can hear similarities drawn from the eerie yet comforting sounds of Ravyn Lenae and Tinashe, pitch perfect contemporary R&B singers. Her chord choices add weight to her soft lyrics, whilst snappy rhythms, reminiscent of earlier Flying Lotus, bring energy to her sets. Her second single released in the first week of March 2018, ‘Better’, has already filled listeners with effervescence. I’m sure her live set will leave you feeling the same. Kick back relax to this chilled tune: https://soundcloud.com/musicbykata/kata-better-final

Joe Beedles

Joe Beedles is an audiovisual artist that explores ideas surrounding club music abstraction and the threshold between the real and the simulated. Joe’s current focus is in generative systems for live performance providing audiences with compelling, highly-detailed compositions, emphasising magnified yet obscured soundscapes. Stroboscopic lights and projected audio-reactive geometry coupled with video footage of the surrounding environment is abstracted in reaction to the audio component in a pseudo-synesthetic fashion. Lucky for us, he’s recorded his work in a live documentation: https://youtu.be/kST6DqO938M

Dubonautik

Lithuanian artist Dubonautik, A.K.A Daniel Late, now resides in Manchester, bestowing listeners with live understated layers of dub-techno. Dubonautik is an electronic music concept with emphasis on creating music on the fly by performing spontaneously in a live format. During the set, you will be taken on a rolling journey with peaks and plateaus… You may feel the beats tap into the echoes of one’s mind through deep, edgy sounds that require thoughtful inspections. His latest live recording is up for your listening delights: https://soundcloud.com/dubonautik/sets/live-recordings

Afrodeutsche

Afrodeutsche is a British born Ghanaian/Russian/German composer, producer, singer and DJ based in Manchester. Her production crosses a wide range of styles including classical solo piano, techno, house and electro. Through sound, Afrodeutsche journeys deep into the world of Film, Documentary Film and Theatre composition, and has produced works for FALLOUT, AlJazeera, RNCM and YESYESNONO. Afrodeutsche is rising rapidly and powerfully. Her LIVE sets are meticulous, and her productions intricate. After playing her first live show warming up for techno titan, Carl Craig, in 2016 in Ibiza for Cosmic Pineapple, she has also featured on line-ups alongside electro royalty, Dopplereffekt. Afrodeutsche’s DJ style is a selection of Drexciyan delights mixed with tough UK techno mainstays such as Claro Intelecto and Randomer. She holds a monthly radio show on the reputable NTS Radio, featuring her own productions, ranging from dark electro to breaks and jacking house. You can enjoy some of her eclectic tracks and mixes on her soundcloud:https://soundcloud.com/afrodeutsche-ad

Everett

Closing up the show will be resident VAM DJ, Toby Bower, the one and only Everett. He’s nailed the slamming electro jams with his well informed electro selection. His mixes contain tracks by Underground Resistance, Drexcyia, DMX crew to name a few. Over the past year, his zeal for blending beats has earned him a regular slot at Limbo Radio, alongside bookings for Percolate parties. He’s giving back to the scene- runningPagoda parties and providing audiences refreshing electro sets and conscientious artist programming.
